Michael Carrick's tenure as Manchester United's head coach kicked off with a dream start, securing a victory against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. The former midfielder has stepped into the Old Trafford hot seat until the end of the season, following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier this month.

The 44-year-old, who briefly served as caretaker manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking in November 2022, marked his second stint with a 2-0 triumph over Pep Guardiola's side. Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock before Patrick Dorgu doubled the lead for the Reds.

This win propels Carrick's team into the Premier League's top four. With United out of European and domestic cup competitions, their focus will solely be on the league for the remainder of the season.

Next on the agenda for the Red Devils is a trip to London to face leaders Arsenal, followed by a home game against Fulham at the beginning of next month.

Subsequent fixtures include clashes with Tottenham and West Ham, before rounding off February with an away match against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
