Everton were left to cling on for a point against the Premier League’s bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers at Hill Dickinson Stadium as they drew 1-1 after having two players sent off late on in bizarre circumstances.

Michael Keane fired the Blues ahead on 17 minutes but after Matheus Mane had pulled Rob Edwards’ side level on 69 minutes, David Moyes’ men imploded. Keane went from hero to villain as he was sent off, after VAR prompted referee Thomas Kirk to check his pitchside monitor, for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair on 83 minutes.

Then as the game entered the 90th minute, Grealish was given his second yellow card of the night – having been booked for dissent shortly before – for sarcastically applauding Kirk, leaving Everton to hold out for a share of the spoils during nine minutes of stoppage time.
