Messages of support have poured in from across the footballing world following news Kevin Keegan has been diagnosed with cancer. The 74-year-old, who enjoyed a celebrated playing career with Liverpool during the 1970s, confirmed his health battle in a statement released by his family on Wednesday.

The former England forward and manager was admitted to hospital after experiencing ongoing abdominal issues. In a statement, his family said: “Kevin Keegan was recently admitted to hospital for further evaluation of ongoing abdominal symptoms.

“These investigations have revealed a diagnosis of cancer, for which Kevin will undergo treatment. Kevin is grateful to the medical team for their intervention and ongoing care.

“During this difficult time, the family are requesting privacy and will be making no further comment.”

Following the announcement, clubs, former teammates and players from across the game shared messages of support.

In a post on X, Liverpool FC said: “The thoughts and support of everyone at Liverpool FC and Forever Reds are with Kevin Keegan after he was diagnosed with cancer.”
