Unai Emery has hinted that Harvey Elliott's loan deal will be cut short after insisting Aston Villa made the decision not to make his £35m agreement with Liverpool permanent two months ago.

Elliott has been frozen out at Villa Park with the club reluctant to use the on-loan midfielder due to the fact they will be obligated to push through a permanent transfer if he plays 10 times.

The 22-year-old has played four times in the Premier League with just one start since his short-term switch to Villa was agreed on September 1 and Emery confirmed the club won't be looking to make the arrangement a full-time one in his pre-match press conference for the Nottingham Forest fixture on Saturday.
