FORMER Portsmouth ace Gary O'Neil is viewed as a 'strong contender' for the vacant manager role at Saints, according to a recent report.

O'Neil, who made 192 appearances for Portsmouth, is said to have admirers at Saints following his work as manager of Premier League sides Bournemouth and Wolves.
