Thomas Tuchel has revealed a glowing recommendation from Lee Carsley has contributed to Bournemouth star Alex Scott being handed his first call-up to the senior England squad.

Scott was the surprise inclusion in Tuchel's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia.

It continues an impressive rise for Scott, who had been playing for non-league side Guernsey FC as recently as 2019 having grown up on the Channel Island.

Scott ultimately joined Bristol City the same year, before making a £25m move to Bournemouth in 2023 having impressed with the Championship side.

Addressing Scott's call-up to the squad, Tuchel explained England Under-21 boss Carsley, who had a spell as the Three Lions interim manager last year, had praised the midfielder's displays in their European Championship triumph in the summer.

The England manager noted how Scott had impressed in the heart of midfield alongside Nottingham Forest's Elliott Anderson, who he notably labelled a 'regular starter' for his side.
