With over a quarter of the season gone and Everton’s strikers only having one goal between them in the Premier League, the Blues are being linked with a move in the January transfer window for more firepower. But a former Goodison Park chief has played down one particular rumour.

Beto, who also netted against League One Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup, headed in the only Premier League goal from an Everton striker so far this term in the 3-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 30.

Thierno Barry, a £27m summer signing from Villarreal, has yet to break his duck and having started at the Stadium of Light on Monday, missed a sitter that could have put the visitors 2-0 up.
