Jude Bellingham feels the Liverpool supporters who booed Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield were just "doing the fans' job" as the former Red endured a miserable return to Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold was roundly jeered after he appeared as an 81st minute substitute at his former home, as his new club slipped to their first Champions League defeat of the season.

Alexis Mac Allister headed home the game's only goal following a free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai, with Bellingham having conceded the foul after tripping Ryan Gravenberch.

Alexander-Arnold's late introduction failed to rouse his new side, who lost at Anfield for the second successive Champions League campaign, with Mac Allister having also scored in last season's 2-0 success for the Reds.

Asked about the booing by Amazon Prime Video, Bellingham said: "I heard it. It's one of those things in football. The fans booing isn't a reflection of how they feel about him. They are trying to give their team the edge, and throw him off a bit.
