Virgil van Dijk has provided a direct and in-person response to Wayne Rooney's criticism of him and Liverpool. The two Premier League winners have been at a war of words in recent weeks after Rooney stated that he had not hit performance levels of recent years.

Arne Slot's side had lost six of their last seven games prior to the weekend's 2-0 win over Aston Villa. Liverpool followed that up with a dominant display against Real Madrid with Alexis Mac Allister getting the winner.

After their triumph, Van Dijk spoke to Amazon Prime Video on a number of topics and with Rooney on the panel, it was no surprise their disagreement was brought up.
