Virgil van Dijk refused to be drawn on what type of Anfield atmosphere should await Trent Alexander-Arnold when Real Madrid travel to Liverpool on Tuesday night. And the Reds skipper also revealed he has barely spoken to his former deputy since his £10m move to the Spanish capital at the start of June.

Alexander-Arnold was set to leave his boyhood club as a free agent at the end of last season before Los Blancos paid the premium to bring him in in time to feature in the Club World Cup in the United States.

The West Derby-born defender is potentially in line for some backlash over the nature of his move to Madrid when he lines up for the La Liga leaders in the Champions League on Tuesday evening. It's currently unclear if the former Liverpool vice-captain will start or be left in reserve on the bench by head coach Xabi Alonso.
