Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new central defender in 2026, as Thomas Frank looks to add quality and depth to his roster at Hotspur Way.

The Lilywhites had enquired about Barcelona defender Eric Garcia in recent weeks, expressing their interest in signing him. However, they have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Eric Garcia as he has agreed terms over a new contract with Barcelona. While Spurs are now unlikely to push for the Spaniard’s signing, it has become clear that they are eyeing defensive reinforcements.

Thomas Frank cannot rely on Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven due to their poor injury record. Romero recently missed few games with an adductor strain, which explains why the Argentinean’s fitness remains a big concern for the boss. Kevin Danso deputised for the Tottenham skipper in those games and did well, but if Frank wants his side to challenge for big trophies, more depth in defence is definitely needed.
