Unai Emery has confirmed that Tyrone Mings suffered an injury after coming on against Liverpool.

The defender was introduced off the bench in the 74th minute, replacing Pau Torres, but he went down the tunnel before full-time.

Villa played the remaining stages of the match with 10 men and were defeated at that stage.

Liverpool won 2-0 at Anfield, ending Villa’s four-match winning run in the league, with goals from Mo Salah and Ryan Gravenberch.

Asked after the match why Mings had walked down the tunnel before the full-time whistle, Emery said: "It is a hamstring injury. Normally, some weeks he will be out with an injury like that. Tomorrow we will test him and know exactly how many matches he will miss."

Emi Buendia could return from a foot injury for Thursday’s match against Maccabi Tel Aviv, while Youri Tielemans is expected to return to training next week.

Andres Garcia, however, still faces some weeks on the sidelines.
