Alan Shearer has implored Newcastle United players to run beyond Nick Woltemade if they are to get the best out of their centre-forward.

Woltemade, 23, has scored six goals across his first 11 appearances since signing for a club-record fee in the final days of the summer transfer window. The striker's arrival has also coincided with their recent upturn in form, with Newcastle winning all but one of their six matches since the start of October.

League Cup success against Tottenham Hotspur was the latest of those victories. Woltemade doubled their lead with his fourth goal at St James' Park.

Shearer has now spoken glowingly about the Germany international while also explaining what his teammates have to do going forward because he's 'not' a typical number nine. "He's done really well," Shearer said on Friday's episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.
