Luke Thomas retains the trust of manager Marti Cifuentes as he fights to keep his place ahead of Victor Kristiansen.

Thomas had a difficult afternoon at Millwall last weekend, letting Femi Azeez in behind for the winning goal, while also losing possession in the build-up to the hosts’ missed penalty.

He was substituted just after the hour, with Wout Faes coming on in his place.

Thomas is the only outfield player who has started every game in all competitions for City so far this season and it’s a run that could continue into Saturday’s clash with Blackburn.

Fans hoping to see Under-21s captain Bade Aluko get his chance will be disappointed, with the teenager again representing the development squad, starting their game at Manchester City on Friday night.

It means it’s a tussle between Thomas and Kristiansen for the left-back spot as things stand, with the Dane hoping he can convince Cifuentes to hand him a first start of the season.
