West Ham’s January priorities have coalesced from ‘every position’ to just the two, with a modest budget and, if Nuno would but see it, a midfield spine already in place meaning there’s no further urgent upgrading required in midfield. Paquetá, Potts, Magassa and Fernandes along with trundling Tomas can provide more than adequate resources until next summer.

The striker and centre back positions are the priorities. Finally the club admits the decision to recruit Callum Wilson – and just Callum Wilson – in the summer was a huge mistake. Who knew?

Rather than pointing the blame, (we all know who runs transfers) we have to hope that the Hammers can reach January still in touch with the rest of the league and bolster their goal scoring options.
