Spanish legend Jordi Alba has admitted he has Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to thank for the career he ended up having.

Sport have an interview with Alba this week, in which he discusses his successful career. The Spaniard announced earlier this month that he intends to retire at the end of the 2025 MLS season in December.

It will bring an end to a trophy-laden career for the defender, in which he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the history of the game.

He has won 22 major trophies during his career, including the Champions League, six La Liga titles, the Club World Cup and the European Championship and Nations League with Spain.

His career has also spanned 793 games to date, 459 coming at Barcelona were he racked up 99 assists and 27 goals during a glittering spell playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and other Barcelona greats.

He also played 110 games for Valencia, where he played under current Aston Villa manager Unai Emery. It was during this time that Emery convinced him to convert from a left-winger into a left-back....
