Newcastle United have been linked with an audacious move for former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay amid reports that he is keen to return to the Premier League.

The Scotland international has enjoyed a hugely successful move to Napoli, helping the Italian side win the Serie A title last season.

He is now linking up with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Ramus Hojlund in Italy, with Antonio Conte's men joint top of the Serie A table with Roma.

However, reports emerged over the weekend that he could look to return to the UK for family reasons in the near future, prompting speculation over his potential next destination.

McTominay will turn 29 later this year, and perhaps does fit in with Newcastle's blueprint of identify young talent with the careers ahead of them.

However, he would offer Eddie Howe excellent experience at both Premier League and European level, and could add even more competitiveness to their midfield options.
