The ‘lot’ of a West Ham fan is pretty onerous right now. David Moyes’ last half season, Lopetegui’s six months, Potter’s nine- and now Nuno’s four games – have all become a test of endurance rather than enjoyment. Being a supporter of the Hammers just isn’t fun.

Anecdotally, many appear to be turning their backs on the club which has been a backdrop to their life for decades.

Negative football, two wins this year and desperate conflict between the fans and Sullivan and Brady  has left the club with a toxic atmosphere which is too much to take, frankly: Often the temptation has been to switch off games halfway through and go do something more enjoyable like wallpaper the spare room or endure root canal without anaesthetic. Anything else, rather than endure more disappointment and vain hope.

However, West Ham fans should take the opportunity offered by tomorrow night’s SKY-televised under 21 fixture in  the Vertu trophy against Swindon to fall back in love with their club: Increasingly supporters are turning away from the dismal week-in-week-out failure of the seniors.
