In just four games, West Ham’s Portuguese head coach has divided opinions. Fans are confused, players look all at sea with Espírito Santo’s team selections and deployments, whilst the results have been simply dreadful: The Hammers seem to have regressed even in the last few week since Graham Potter left the building.

One Premier League point in four games is relegation form. ‘Even” Julen Lopetegui fared better than Espírito Santo or, indeed, Potter. Without Lopetegui’s points won early last season, the Hammers would surely have been scrapping in the bottom three at the end of last season.

And we as fans thought Lopetegui’s ‘chaos-ball’, with his last minute tactical changes, players deployed out of position and knee – jerk tactical reactions that the players didn’t understand, often made mid game, were as bad as things could get. Wrong.

The Nottingham Forest saga has shown West Ham’s current bottom three rivals plumb new depths: Ange Postecoglou was sacked after just thirty nine days at the helm and eight Premier League defeats.

Some are suggesting Nuno’s tenure at London Stadium could be even shorter.
