Alexander Isak handled his summer transfer plan 'all wrong' - and Liverpool are now paying the price according to former Newcastle United and England winger Chris Waddle.

The Swede didn't train with the Magpies, nor play in any pre-season matches, as he tried to force through a move to Anfield in August.

While his transfer amitions were eventually realised just before deadline in a British record £130m deal, Isak has struggled for form and fitness since making the switch to Liverpool.

He has scored just once for Arne Slot's side - against Championship outfit Southampton in the Carabao Cup - and came off at half-time with a groin injury in the Reds' 3-1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek.

Slot has spoken extensively about the problems Isak has faced getting up to speed after a summer without first-team training, but ex-United and Spurs star Waddle lays the blame firmly at the player's door after his pre-season stance.
