The Blues welcome Thomas Frank’s side to Hill Dickinson this weekend looking to bounce back from defeat at City.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Moyes praised defender Jake O’Brien for his performances at right-back.

However, he reiterated that the Irish international will need to fight to start in his natural position.

When asked if the 24-year-old could get a chance at centre-back, Moyes replied: “He is a centre back but he is doing a good job for us at the right back in the main.”

He continued: “He’ll need to keep fighting for his own position.”

It’s difficult not to feel sympathy for O’Brien, who has rarely featured in his natural position since joining the club in 2024.

While his job at right-back has been commendable, it’s clear that investment in that position is a must in January.

James Garner has previously done well at right-back, and could slot in should O’Brien move inside.
