Ex-Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has been left red-faced after his assessment of Moises Caicedo before Wednesday's 5-1 win over Ajax in the Champions League.

The Eredivisie outfit were left a man short early in the game when Kenneth Taylor was given his marching orders for a reckless challenge on Facundo Buonanotte. The Blues did not waste any time capitalising on their numerical advantage, with Marc Guiu finding the back of the net from close quarters at the Shed End.

Chelsea's victory was then sealed with goals from Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Estevao Willian and Tyrique George - ensuring an easy three points for the west London giants. Their only disappointment came when Wout Weghorst converted a penalty, handed to him on a plate by a needless foul from Tosin Adarabioyo.

And Nevin's pre-match comments on Caicedo turned out to be wrong - as he made another key impact, too. The Scotsman questioned the predicted use of Chelsea's Ecuadorian midfielder at full-back before kick-off.
