Walking around the neighbouring streets of Deventer – home of Go Ahead Eagles – it’s clear that this club is deeply embedded in its community.

I walked around 20 minutes from the scenic city centre to reach the stadium, De Adelaarshorst, which will host Aston Villa’s third European match of the season this week.

Unai Emery’s side are, of course, targeting a third consecutive win in the Europa League on Thursday night – and indeed a sixth victory in all competitions.

Favourites to prevail tomorrow, Go Ahead Eagles manager Melvin Boel spoke highly of Villa’s ability to compete on all fronts, given the level of competition in the Premier League. However, he also warned of the fight his team will bring.

“Respect comes before and after the game,” Boel said. “The moment you enter the pitch, it is a battle. That is also what we will try to make tomorrow night.”

For Go Ahead Eagles, this is one of the biggest European nights in their history.
