Emiliano Buendia's sublime winning goal against Tottenham left Match of the Day pundits purring on Sunday evening, with former Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given describing the 77th-minute strike as "probably the best goal I've seen all season".

In-form Spurs had taken an early lead in north London after Rodrigo Bentancur swept home João Palhinha's knockdown in just the fifth minute. But Unai Emery's side responded and drew level eight minutes before the break when Morgan Rogers worked space for himself on the edge of the box before arrowing a brilliant strike past Guglielmo Vicario.

A draw seemed the most likely outcome as the game tipped into its final quarter, but substitute Buendia had other ideas. After Spurs had cleared a corner, the move started in Villa's own half, with Matty Cash spraying a 30-yard half-volley to Lucas Digne on the edge of the Tottenham penalty area.
