Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon helped convince him to join Liverpool after snubbing rivals Manchester United. The German has confessed that he was put off by certain elements of the role and believed it wasn't the right moment for him.

Klopp declined United's approach before taking charge at Anfield, steering Liverpool to prolonged triumph. Throughout that era, he led Liverpool in surpassing their North West adversaries, though things could have been vastly different had he accepted the position after departing Borussia Dortmund.

It was previously documented that Klopp was viewed as David Moyes's replacement after United contacted him in 2014, before he chose to stay in the Bundesliga. Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Klopp disclosed that he harboured doubts following discussions with the United leadership.
