Spurs goalkeeper Brandon Austin surprised children when he dropped in to unveil their new multi-sports area.

The facility at Chestnuts Primary School in Tottenham was completed this summer after fundraising by parents and teachers to create as a space for children to develop their soccer skills.

“Having Brandon open the games area was a dream for the children,” headteacher Katie Horwood said. “They loved asking him questions and finding out about becoming a footballer.”

Brandon cut the ribbon and took part in a Q and A session with the children to reveal how he grew up in Tottenham Hotspurs’ youth academy.

He said: “I loved seeing how excited the kids were to have the facility opened — it put smiles on their faces.”

Chestnuts Primary is one of 14 schools in Tottenham and Enfield supported by the Spurs Foundation’s ‘Primary Stars’ programme, which uses Premier League and professional football to inspire children to develop life skills.

The programme also aims to improve the confidence of teaching staff to run good PE sessions and has helped 36 schools so far, including special needs and disabilities....
