FORWARD Ross Stewart insisted he must use his brace against Sheffield United as a "stepping stone" to kick on at Saints.

Stewart, 29, scored twice as Southampton came from behind to win 2-1 at Bramall Lane, ending their six-game winless run in the Championship.

The two-time Scotland international scored his second in style, thumping into the top corner from 25 yards out just seven minutes after his equaliser.

Having dealt with injuries since joining the club from Sunderland, this was a special night for Stewart, as it marked the first time he started twice in the space of a few days for Saints.

"To get to goals and be involved in a win is really pleasing, but to come through my second 80-85 minutes in the space of three days is almost as pleasing for me personally," he explained.
